What separates those who make money on Twitch from those who don't? : Twitch

Link flair icons made by Freepik on FlatIcon , licensed under Creative Commons 3. What separates those who make money on Twitch from those who don't? Some people make lots of money on Twitch while others make nothing.

What separates the two? How do people like LegendaryLea just using her as one example make so much money? Also, what game would you recommend streaming for a girl who is just starting out? The games I play now are all oldies and I doubt anyone would want to watch them.

I just want to try my hand at it and see if I can make back what I spent on my computer, webcam, and equipment. If you're streaming for money you're not gonna make any. These people have built a following over many years. What causes one to make money and one to not isn't ever really cut and dry. Play what you enjoy and be interactive. Have a good setup is good and be an entertainer. That's what all the top streams are. If not watching for skill play they are entertaining.

What I see a great deal are the typical boob tubes. Female streamers who emphasize their sexuality simply for tips. To be honest I'm jealous, I wish I was a girl to flaunt what I got because most people who watch streams are guys and, to be frank, anything mildly sexual to the kind of people I've personally experience who game or watch people game is well received.

So if money is all you care about then, screw it all and immediately sell out as a mild cam girl who's playing games. The big streamers have built a community and a following. That is their "secret". This is not something done over night. If you are a woman you will instantly have a much easier time building a following than a man would and thats a proven fact. If you want to make cash, still follow the same principle and build your community but you essentially gotta show as much skin as possible under the rules.

This is not true. The best evidence I've seen on this topic is here: The one piece they did find evidence for was that women have higher follower count growth and pageviews for their size, but it converts into concurrent viewers at a lower rate than men. But follows are not intrinsically valuable; they're important only if they can bring you actual viewers when you're live, and for women they're actually worth less than for men.

I work on Twitch's data science team, but had nothing to do with this work directly, it was conducted entirely by community members. Some people stream super popular games like League and Dota2 and CSGO and hope to be noticed and rise to the top though most never get any views. Some people stream whatever the fuck they feel like streaming and trust that their viewers will watch them for them , and not for the game. This is a hard approach to pull off because it's hard to gain a following this way.

They'll build a reputation for themselves among that community and grow that way. Probably the "easiest" way to get viewership, but it still requires dedication.

How Much Money Streamers REALLY Make

And then of course there are some female streamers who wear low cut tops and make suggestive jokes and try and lure the horny crowd in. This is typically frowned upon IMO, but it obviously is successful. So to answer your question, the more viewers you have, the more money you're gonna make.

Don't make your goal to make money, have your goal to gain more viewers. Money is the last thing to come, but you'll never get it if that's your main goal. But you can put in the time and the effort and never get people to stick around.

It happens all the time.

If you're not interesting to watch, people won't stick around. People are saying it takes years of building a community to see that money. True to a degree, but its much more. It's not even true that boobs help you make money.

There are plenty of streamers that try to play on sexuality that fail. Realistically - it's chaos. Statistical probability seems to be far and away the largest thing that drives success over a long enough timeline and over the entire population of twitch. Some people may disagree with this claim, but I think the recipe for success literally is just scaling "luck" on a timeline. Longer time makes it easier to be lucky, but in reality your boobs or sense of humor may not be helping you out as much as you think.

That being said I know one or two streamers that started streaming this year and are already making a full time living off it. You should stream the older games if that's what you like. You can defiantly grow as a streamer of older games.

As for making money; don't expect any. If you are in it because you want to make money you are gonna struggle to stay enthused and it will show in your broadcast. As others have said, people like Lea have been streaming for a long time and have large followings.

If people spend enough time in your channel they will start to be more involved with your content and want to help out. It's a competitive game, always in the top 10, and requires a ton of thought power as opposed to fast reflexes.

Unfortunately it is pay to win and constantly changing, and I have a feeling that eventually blizzard will make changes that make the game plummet in popularity. You won't make big money unless you can pull in a constant viewers. Perhaps consider this as a part time form of side-income that is unstable.

Don't make any raunchy comments. I have a lady friend here who makes more from donations than I make regulary from twitch revenue - and she is not twitch partnered like I am. Make a schedule and stick to it. Don't add your real account as a friend or you WILL tag yourself on your real account every time you take a picture of yourself. Facebook does not like external links. Host other big name streamers that play your game every time you take your stream offline make sure the streamer you host uses twitch alerts, this way your twitch ID pops up on their stream and everyone can then identify you as the person who hosted- more importantly they know you exist.

Maybe they'll check you out when they are done and then host you on another day. I advise you to be platonic with your chat.
